Applied Bioinformatics
COURSE OVERVIEW
Micro-credential is a short course, focused credential designed to provide the skills and knowledge required within an introduction to the basics of Bioinformatics.
A Micro-credential can also provide a path to a course-equivalent certificate, equivalent to a prerequisite course Biological pathway.
The objective of this course is to teach how bioinformatics techniques can help with solving biological problems. This course will provide hands-on experience in applying bioinformatics software tools and online databases to analyze experimental biological data. DNA and protein sequence alignment, sequence motifs/patterns, phylogenetic trees, protein structures: prediction, alignment, classification, Protein Interaction Networks, Genomic variation, Gene expression. Biological databases, introduction to metabolic and signaling pathway, application of Bioinformatics in Drug design and discovery.
